1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). Our community is not a soap box for complaining or drama, so please refrain from doing so here.[/size]

Grading services turn around time?
:sos: I'm curious about the turn around time for coins sent to the grading companies. From the time the are put in the mail to the time you can reasonably expect to receive them back. I recently (Feb. 2013) returned to the "obsession" :h known as numismatics after being idle for 35+ years and would like to send some off for grading. Its a little intimidating (ha!) when you look at the sites and start looking at the the instructions, tiers, levels and such. Don't want to fill out the form wrong. any one know of any links to instructional videos for do's and don'ts that are particularly good? thanks for any help. :sos: Thanks again for all the help!

Re: Grading services turn around time?
I understand your apprehension, we all had the first time jitters. The information you seek depends on the grading service you're planning on submitting too. All are similar, but I send to PCGS and they have an online submission form that's self explanatory.
You have an advantage that I didn't have, grading services tend to not agree with the grade and condition of your coins, so you can ask us if it's worth submitting. I never had that option when I started.
Now, looking at this coin you posted, I assume this is one you intend to submit, anyway it has nice details but it looks like it's been cleaned. I don't mean harshly, but maybe dipped, and this coin has a chance to come back genuine and with a net AU grade. As I said, PCGS often doesn't agree with me so you can take my opinion or leave it.

Re: Grading services turn around time?
Daniel, Thanks for your expertise. After seeing your grade I got to looking at it again from different angles and realized it is probably closer to your assessment than my hopes. Dag nab it :w you have a good eye with out even having the coin in hand! Also, is it a couple of weeks or a couple of months, roughly, from the time sent in to the time they return, for non-expedited service?

Re: Grading services turn around time?
They go by business days so weekends don't count, so a 35 day turn around can turn into 40+ days or can be near 30 days. So plan on a 25-30 return on your coins depending on the tier, with a modern coin tier to be much longer than any.
