Slab Renew tests will be posted soon
Here's a product I completely forgot to share and buy, so I could test it for members. It's called Slab Renew and is a plastic polish for removing scratches and dings on slabs. I am going to buy some and show before and after images so you can see first hand how if it works.
Here's the link to check it out Slab Renew at ebay

Re: Slab Renew tests will be posted soon
I don't know but I used it but haven't posted the details yet. I am satisfied with the results since it does clear up the slabs surface, but I am not convinced that it's worth buffing out the larger gouges. It takes some time, is messy, and you have to use more than one clean towel to get off all the residue.
I give it 3 our of 5 stars so far, hope to get the time to be more thorough.

Re: Slab Renew tests will be posted soon
The six coin holders in the October contest were all polished using Scratch Doctor. It is some product found in the auto section at Walmart for cleaning head light lenses. Some of these had "deep" gouges and looking at the photos, I don't think you can see any of them anymore.
My "technique" is to put a small dab on the rag, rub only the viewing area until the polish is basically dried, then use a clean spot from the rag to remove the residue.
First time I used the stuff, I put it on the holder and rubbed... way too much, very messy. I've probably still got some of that stuff on that particular holder and it is hard to get off completely from the various crevices that exist on PCGS holders.
Before and after photos are a good idea! I'll clean up a couple with my polish for comparison.

Re: Slab Renew tests will be posted soon
Am I correct in guessing that if 'FILLS' the damaged area, as opposed to 'REMOVING MATERIAL', to 'smooth' out the surface?? :dunno whistling2:
(or a very weak/slow solvent based compound that does a bit of each?)

Here's a sampling of what Scratch Doctor does in about 1 minute of polishing.
Deep gouges remain, but clarity of plastic is so much better afterwards. (Haze is removed)
Would like to see how Slab Renew does in comparison.

Re: Slab Renew tests will be posted soon
As soon as I get an hazy or scratched slab I will post an example. Promise.
Re: Slab Renew tests will be posted soon
I have a bottle of it and use it on my PCGS Rattlers and ANACS 1st gen holders.
I think it does clean up the scratches.

Re: Slab Renew tests will be posted soon
I took a "hazy" slab photo (left photo), then applied Slab Renew (middle photo) and then used Scratch Doctor (right photo).
The coin itself looked "whiter" after Slab Renew and more scratching/haze was evident in the black background areas. After applying Scratch Doctor, the background was darker (less haze reflecting), the coin seems to have more color, but the scratches from the middle photo remain.
Neither product removed the bigger scratch at the top of the photo.
Then, I followed directions!! on the Slab Renew...
Requires several applications where each application is "scrubbed" a bit lighter than the one before.
This turned out better as it removed the fine scratches and looks darker on the background than even the Scratch Doctor.
