Interesting PCGS Doily Slab Holder

#1 Unread post by Daniel »

I haven't seen a PCGS "Doily" slab with a $20 Liberty Gold coin. It's interesting because of the label but the history of these slabs is even more so. PCGS designed and created these slabs to thwart counterfeit slabs and holders, but shortly after they where introduced, someone had made a few counterfeit Doily slabs and thus ended the short tenure of this design.

Alan correct me if I got some fact incorrect.

Well Daniel
You are correct about the reason for the new Doily slab. The label was printed with thousands of small dots, and they also put an outer ring in the slab as well and a hologram on the back. To my knowledge this slab was never counterfeited again, but it only lasted for about five months or so before being changed again.
