My Biggest problem with trying to grade coins myself is that MANY times, especially with Colonial coins, One side is better than the other. I use to think this just because all the ones I have are ones that I found while Metal Detecting and the side facing more downward was the better side. Then I ordered a Coin from England that is not a "dug" coin and I noticd the same thing. I've noticed that with alot of coins on auction sites as well, even more modern coins.
So, If anyone has an answer, I would appreciate your opinion.
Thanks
Sal

Re: Grading Coins Yourself
The planchets were of poor quality for the most part and often the striking pressure was a work in progress so I doubt the one side would obtain more wear because it was facing down and into the ground. Images would help me helpe you.
