Counterfeit Silver Dollars Passing the Test

#1 Unread post by gary213 » Fri Jul 24, 2015 3:33 pm

I have a few 'silver' dollars that I KNOW are counterfeit. I received them from another antique dealer who was ripped off buying them from an unscrupulous cheat.
These coins test positive for silver with an acid test... they are actually silver plated.
A magnet will NOT attach itself as the coins are nickel.
I have shown them to well over 50 collectors and dealers and all were ready to purchase as original, until I showed them they were fakes.
The weight is the SAME as a silver dollar. I have common and rare dates. Has anyone else encountered these master fakes?

Photos of these master counterfeits would be great. And, of course, welcome.

may i ask a few questions plz?

from your post info.....can i assume that:
1. you did an 'acid test', by rubbing the edge/rim of the coin on the stone, & used 'nitric acid'(?) to test the metal content?
.....& what color(s) did you get??....& was there any "reaction" of the acid on the block after 20 seconds (fizzing/bubbling)?
2. when you 'weighed' your coins,...you turned on the scale, waited until it read 'zero', then placed the coin on the scale,....& used that # for the weight ??

D, I FIGURED OUT THE 'SAVED DRAFT' THINGY....NEVERMIND....DAAAAAA
