eric,
here is a big mistake many make....having 'multiple light sources'.
:eureka:
using 'images' without 1 single source, 'from the side', casts odd-ball shadows, hard to see device 'reflect', & makes the images, as they 'are picked up by the lens', appear different than they actually are.
imaging is a "practice-practice-practice" artform. i'm sure you have seen some examples of how i 'snapped' pics, using different 'angles & lighting', on purpose, to show you how you can 'fool the viewer'.

i see 'conflicting details' here....i have a wild idea....maybe.
another 'mind-bender'....thanks bud :h
i hope you don't have a big stack of these, for me.....good 4 you though!

hugeeyes
can you make out:
1. the 'reversed' (mirrored) date on the reverse (pressed into?)...the final 2 numbers?...i see the '18'
2. can you see any sort of 'outline' of the 'obverse bust details', on the reverse? (pressed into, or 'raised')

i can barley make the last 2 out but they look like 18 not 100% and yes u can make out the bottom of the bust its weird cause it has both pressed in and popped out extra features i would think another coin was pressed into this coin but the raised features make me believe that its a mint error so still just not sure

that was my thought, with these pics....
this is a good example of why i need to see/hold/feel/touch/taste/smell, well, maybe not 'taste' (smell sometimes, yea...hit with torch, 'oiled', chemically altered surface...), & NOT, TO JUST USE PICTURES ONLY to attribute coins.

Just happened to come across this post again and got to wondering if the multiple images could be caused by rotated clashed dies and then double struck?

A coin could be struck by a clashed die more than once and a slight rotation could happen.
