Facts on our non-paper paper currency
It's not paper and there's a reason it's called the "rag buck" http://www.moneyfactory.gov/uscurrency/ ... ocess.html

Re: Facts on our non-paper paper currency
It's called a Rag buck, an archaic term for sure, because the notes are made mostly of a fibrous material and when they're used often, got wet, etc. then they would feel more like a rag. I am talking about older currencies when the feds were toying with different materials to make the notes so they were harder to counterfeit and so they would last longer in circulation. Now they're 75% cotton and 25% linen and that's more of a clothing type material than paper.
