Mule Notes

#1 Unread post by 2centsal »

Hello. I need some help with Mule Notes. I've gotten 2 answers about what they are . One guy said they occur on 1928 Notes where the plate number on the front is larger than the back . On another site forum there was a post that says they occur on Notes from the '20's and thirties with the same explanation about the plate numbers Macro on front and Micro on back. So, what years do they exist and does denomination matter ? Also, Can the front number be a Micro number and back a Macro number ? Third question, are there certain plate numbers to look out for or does that matter. I think I have a few. Here's what I think is a Mule I have . SORRY YOU HAVE TO CLICK THE PICS TO ENLARGE.

When plates have been changed leaving a large SN on one side and a small SN(serial number) on the other, you have a mule bill. They are all transitional errors. The bureau of engraving frequently replaced only the front or back plate, not both, allowing a macro (large) on one side and a micro(small) on the other.

Prices seem to vary by availability of each note or denomination. I do not collect them so you would get a better idea by checking what auctions or online sites for what they sold for.
