Grading Currency

#1 Unread post by 2centsal »

Hello everyone. Does anyone have some good sites for looking up Values for Currency. My book for some reason only lists VF-20 and UNC-63 for a lot of the Currency but I have some Notes that are below VF and some in between the two grades . Why do they do this? I have two Currency Books and both are like this. The only reason I bought the one that I'm using now is it has Values for Star Notes below the Normal price. The Book is " The Official Red Book " " A Guide to United States Paper Money ". Third edition by Arthur L. and Ira S. Friedberg . Friedberg is the guy who came up with the numbering system for Currency which is Universal, for those that didn't know that.
Thanks.

Sorry Sal, forgot to reply to this post. Grading currency depends on if you're trying to grade uncirculated examples or circulated examples. An uncirculated not will not have folds, bent corners, be dirty and be clean and crisp. As far as what point grade to put on UNC's is a little more difficult than grading MS coins.

Circulated currency depends on how many folds, bent or missing corners, frayed edges, pin holes, soil and over-all condition of the paper itself, the more problems the lower the grade.

I'm trying to grade some currency in Between VF-20 and UNC-63 since the book I have only list the 2 grades for many of the Notes . It's the " Official Red Book " A Guide Book of United States Paper Money third Edition by Arthur L. and Ira S. Friedberg . It's not so much the Grading, but rather finding Values .

Since the grade determines the value, can you post some images and we can try to find the value?
