Need help grading these Error Notes

#1 Unread post by 2centsal »

I have 2 offset transfer Error Notes. I need help with grading. The Back on Front is 80% Covered and I paid $30 several years ago.
The Front on Back I received in 1977 from my father who got it from the bank while cashing his check. I was 11 at the time and just started collecting. He told me to hold on to it someday because it might be worth a lot of money. So, I've had it since then and never had it graded. As you can see, it's 100% covered but I'm unsure if it would be considered light or dark and what it would grade. It has some smudging on the front but is still very crisp and only has a very minor center fold . YOU CAN CLICK ON THE PICS TO ENLARGE.

The best I can do is that the transfers look dark enough to be medium to bold and they would be UNC but not the one with a fold. Can't give a specific grade and the values depends on the bank and signatures. I can't make them out.

Daniel, their both from the Bank of Boston. The first one is a 1977- Azie Taylor Morton & W. Michael Blumenthal and the 2nd is 1977A which is Azie Taylor Morton & G. William Miller . I also guessed the 2nd one was a Medium. In my Currency book it says that the Back on face is $150 for VF / $200 Unc. but seeing that it's only 80%, I'm not sure. Maybe $160 ( 200x . 80= $160). :l
The 2nd one that is Front on Back says $200 in VF and $500 Unc. - That's a big difference and that's why I wanted an opinion on that one especially. I am confident the first would grade a CU63 but the second is a tough one. In the grading section it says for AU that it can have some light smudges as long as it's crisp, which it is and can have a light fold, so I'm guessing in the AU category. What I wasn't sure about is whether it was light or dark . So, I guess it would be a Medium in AU . I guess I'll have to get it graded to really know for sure. For now, I'll just list it in my Inventory Book as maybe around $300.
