Belarus Chinese Lunar Calendar

#1 Unread post by mhonzell »

If you've never seen these, they are absolutely beautiful coins. Made for the country of Belarus by the Mint of Poland. There is a maximum of 8,000 coins made per year for the year being celebrated.

First coin is the Year of the Snake, made in 2012 (see 4:00 position for year made) to celebrate the year 2013 (highlighted in gold). Second coin is the Year of the Horse, made in 2013 to celebrate the year 2014 (highlighted in gold.) Yes, that's a gem in the center. The coin's obverse represents the different concepts used to measure time as found on/within watches. The reverse has a distinct Russian art flare combined with the Chinese symbols for that year.

Coins are almost 39 mm across and weigh 33.6 grams.
The right side in the photos is the obverse.
Coins represents 20 rubles, which in American coin is about... 0.2 cents. Obviously, the silver content is worth much more. And the artistic value... well, that's for you to judge.

Belarus will not ship these, period. A local must go to the Bank of Belarus to obtain one. Which means you must know someone to get them, or order them "later" through eBay, etc.
