Very nice. I sold off most of my 1871-1917 German coinage. I wish I did not sell the 1917 Hesse-Darm 3Mark.

this is a 3 mark piece from Anhalt-Dessau.It's a commemorative coin for the 25 years of the prince's couple wedding. A coin wiht heavy toning. That's why I bought it from Numismata Berlin before two years.I like the tone of blue and and ddep red ,except of the golden toning which is all over the coin.

Thanks for letting me know about this coin. I have just found an 18th century German coin with a known mintage of 1 and I am going for that one.

Even though it has a high mintage, I have always believed that it is a commemorative that is way undervalued. I have seen them go for just over $125USD for MS63 and as high as $325USD for MS65. It is one commemorative that should be in every German collection. The Prussian Victory is what unified Germany into a very strong Nation.

I did state as high and as low. I have seen that coin go for over $300 at auction's in MS62. I guess it comes down to if someone wants the coin bad enough, they will over pay for it.

It goes back to the posts and articles we have written numerous times, some people will pay more for a choice and bright-white MS62 and well-struck example than a toned or not as well struck or not as lustrous MS63 or MS64. Especially when it comes to common coins. Furthermore some people just bid to out-bid other bidders so they can "win" so some coins do sell for beyond their current BV because of this and many other factors like the image might have made the MS62 appear to be an upgrade to a higher grade. Who knows without the auctions to see?

Interesting coin. Either poor planchet, poor striking pressure and doubled die or all three, neat specimen for study.

It is very common for a Taler from the 17th century to have a strike like that. I am almost finished with my chapter for the book on the striking process and minting during the 16th to 18th centuries. I will be posting it here in the World Coin forum. Here is a Taler from my collection that was struck more then once during the minting process.

Okay, double struck, thanks for correcting and adding the information. I did think of that and have seen some coins you posted before, but didn't come to mind before I posted.
