Germanicus or Caligula?
Recent acquisition.
I am having trouble Iding the reverse
5.8 grams
The obverse looks like Caligula but the seller said it was Germanicus

ΓΕΡΜΑΝΙΚΟΣ (Germaikos)
It is hard to refute the Greek lettering on the coin.
What I find for Caligula is written in Latin: GERMANICVS, with exception to this one: I think the reverse is a stag (deer). A similar coin (not the same) would be RPC I 3134 making this a Provincial Coin.

I see. So if this is genuine is must be very rare becuase I cant even find it on wildwinds or vcoins.
Is that what it means by unlisted?

Re: Germanicus or Caligula?
Unlisted means no one else has publicly cataloged this coin.
If you found a reference that positively indicates it was made at a particular mint for a particular ruler, then a museum would pay nicely to show this and it would get cataloged. Without it being cataloged, rarity has no meaning as you cannot provide proof that it is one of ten known, or one of five million made, just undiscovered, so far.

Re: Germanicus or Caligula?
On the OP's coin does the pointed Chin (beard?) play any significance in the ID?

Re: Germanicus or Caligula?
Possibly the pointy chin would help if we could find the actual coin. For me, the style of lettering is most significant.
I still don't think it's Caligula. (Especially not a radiated bust.)

Re: Germanicus or Caligula?
The only two options seem to be Caligula or his Father.
Caligula's latin name is "Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus"
Also he was the son of a Roman General named Germanicus.
Did they put Roman Generals on coins or only Emperors?
