Re: Byzantine coin ID
There are many variants of this coin. Most are differentiated by the dots that appear in the cross formed in the halo. It can also be small crosses or "X"'s.
I see five dots in the vertical and horizontal bars. SB 1813
There can also be dots in the book.
Basil II and Constantine VIII, AE Class 2 anonymous follis
976-1028 AD
Obverse:
IC-XC to left and right of bust of Christ, facing, with nimbate cross behind head, holding book of gospels, sometimes with dots in centre of book's border, five dots in the limbs of the cross
Reverse:
IhSUS XRISTUS bASILEU bASILE in four lines, ornament below
("Jesus Christ King of Kings")

Re: Byzantine coin ID
This actually happens a lot with Roman rulers.
Constantine VIII, (born 960/961—died Nov. 12, 1028), Byzantine emperor.
He shared his throne as co-emperor with his brother Basil II from c. 962 to 1025 and was sole ruler from 1025 to 1028.
