Amisos was settled c. 760 - 750 B.C. by people from Miletus, who established a flourishing trade relationship with the ancient peoples of Anatolia. Amisos came under the rule of the Persian Empire, Alexander the Great's Macedonian Empire, and then the Kingdom of Pontus. The Romans took control in 47 B.C. and Amisos remained within the Byzantine Empire after the fall of Rome.

This coin falls before the Roman occupation, so would be a Greek coin.

Amisos, Pontos
AE20
Time of Mithradates VI
120-63 BC
19mm
Obverse:
Helmeted head of Ares facing right
Reverse:
AMI-ΣOY across fields, sword in sheath, star in crescent at upper left, IB at upper right, ΡΠMK monogram at lower left, no monogram at lower right (I'm guessing on the monogram as I can't make it out in the picture.)
Malloy 32a, b, or f. Not in SNG (a, b, or f determined by monogram in lower right of reverse.)
