Re: This Mark Antony look fake?
The wear is evenly distributed, as if well circulated. I don't see indications that it is cast. But, the cleaning is kind of rough as you can see the strokes in the patina on the obverse.
These were Issued before the Battle of Actium, in 32 BC, and likely minted at Antony's winter headquarters in Patrae (Greece). It was silver denarii such as this that Mark Antony used to pay his legions and fleet. They contained a lower silver content (copper having been added to the alloy) or even silver washed (fourré), making these debased coins tend not to be hoarded, but in constant circulation. As a result, most are often found in very worn condition or with bankers' assay marks.
Seeking to associate himself with Julius Caesar, who had held the augurate, Antony too identified himself as augur; so one reads ANT AVG (abbreviating Antonius augurus); III VIR R P C abbreviates Triumvir rei publicae constituendae ("One of Three Men for the Restoration of the Republic"), which was adopted in 43 BC by Mark Antony, Octavian, and Lepidus when they formed the Second Triumvirate.

While the lettering fades as you move right, so does the price of the ship.
My guess is it is real.
That said, this is where Daniel is far better the expert and why I sometimes post a nicer example of a coin. It doesn't matter when a fake is made, Daniel can "sense" them.

Re: This Mark Antony look fake?
Tough call. As I said, I can identify most any coin. Authenticity is difficult by photo on a well worn ancient coin. The areas with patina and verdigris help, but obverse and reverse wear don't agree.

Re: This Mark Antony look fake?
is it possible for wear on 1 side to be more than the other and still be real? meaning if the coin was upside down and sand erosion wore it down while the other not as much?

Of course.
It just becomes harder to authenticate. Again, pedigree comes into play.

Re: This Mark Antony look fake?
Those coins look legit, but as Paul said, he's a "Flipper". He bought them for less and tries to sell them quickly for more.

Just take a look at sold prices for the same type of item first to make sure you are making a good deal.

Re: This Mark Antony look fake?
Nothing necessarily wrong with international, I have just heard horror stories of the hoops sellers have to go through. And depending on where they are located, it might be an indication of problems to actually get the coins delivered.RomanGreekCoins wrote: ↑Fri Mar 02, 2018 1:58 amwhats wrong with international? becuase they make you sign for it?PetesPockets55 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2018 11:21 am

Re: This Mark Antony look fake?
With ebay's shipping centers that is where you shop, then ebay charges and ships to the customer. Problems can arise when ebay's charge is higher than your shipping charge and there's potential for bad feedback, but I haven't had it happen to me.
