Caesar Slug.

#1 Unread post by RomanGreekCoins »

I have a question about thus slug/cull .Both sides are very worn It clearly says CAESAR ( as well as AVG) On the Obverse It if you notice the CAESAR lettering is backwards compared to most Roman coins

What era is this? Which emperor could this possibly be?

Usually, when someone presents and ancient with obverse legends running counter-clockwise, I head for "imitation" land. But, you've presented a couple of Caesar coins now, and they did make legends that run that way. Also notice the reverse appears to have VP at the six o'clock position, again running counter-clockwise.

Possible:
Augustus - RIC I -136
Obverse: S P Q R IMP CAESARI AVG COS XI TRI POT VI
Reverse: CIVIB ET SIGN MILIT A PART RECVP
Civil War Tokens
Morgan Dollars
Ancient Coins
