Re: Constantine I w/ Three Standards question
RIC 94
Roman Imperial Coins, Constantine I, 307-337, Follis 312-313, Ostia, AE. 4-5 g.
Laureate and cuirassed bust right IMP C CONSTANTINVS P F AVG / SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI Aquila between two vexilla (legionary eagle between two vexilla, the left surmounted by a hand, the right by a wreath.)
Not rare, but worth a little more than most from Constantine's time.

I've always enjoyed the hunt required to identify a coin.

Re: Constantine I w/ Three Standards question
I've been collecting ancients for about 10 years. They are probably my favorite. But, that is because I used to order them from the Slavic states uncleaned and would clean them myself to see if I could tease out some details. I have some real culls. But, I identify them all.
Along the way, I picked up a couple of books, which taught me what was important to look at. Most people don't buy the reference books anymore. And, if they do, they don't use them. But, it makes a huge difference.
I actually like the history behind a coin better than the coin. Where has it been? What could it buy? Was the person a good ruler, or is the coin mocking him?
You will find that the regulars on this forum actually study their specialties, understand how coins are made, and know their coin's details. We will tell you when we don't know and we'll rejoice in your finds. We each enjoy helping where we can in the world of coins. It's our hobby. And, I'm thrilled that someone else enjoys the ancients!
