Japanese Samurai Coins

#1 Unread post by Daniel »

Here's a SHU and a BU from the mid to late 1800's. I haven't looked up anymore information on these but they're interesting coins. I am thinking of sending them to ANACS to be authenticated, then selling them. I just don't trust Asian coins anymore.

I really like these. The NiBu Kin (1868-69) and NiShu Kin (1824-30.)
I believe they were the last rectangular coins made due to the Samurai being annihilated. The emperor (Meiji Restoration) looking to be more "Western" changed over to the cash coin. (Round with a square hole.)

Unfortunately, the Chinese are simply counterfeiting way to many coins from the Asian arena. I won't even touch their modern stuff. I even have to carefully check the coins I have in holders from American dealers because of them.

I agree, it makes collecting much harder for people who have to learn what's fake and what's authentic.
