CONTEST! - Win a free graded coin! : CLOSED

#1 Unread post by mhonzell »

It is time again for a new contest!
Last time I tried a trivia contest, I only got three participants and I gave out all the prizes to two people. Let me tell you, they made out big time. I think I picked the wrong season last time, so I'm trying Springtime this year.

I cannot stress enough... read the rules!!
Here's the prize:
If you are a Coin Auction Help website supporter when the contest closes and you get the best score, you win this Proof 70 Ultra Cameo Kennedy Half Dollar. (I'm not in cohoots with Daniel, I just really appreciate this website and want to see it cointinue to exist!)
2002 Kennedy.JPG
Otherwise, the best score will win a graded coin of my choice.
There will only be one winner this time.

Rules:
1. To win the Kennedy Half Dollar, you must to have the CH Supporter logo under your name by close of contest and have the high score on the trivia quiz.
If you have questions about how to become a CH Supporter, contact Daniel.

2. Question scoring:
  • a. Each correct answer is worth five points.
  • b. You earn an extra point per question if you answer with a picture of a coin. (Feel free to cut and paste from public sources.)
  • c. Each incorrect answer or unanswered question subtracts one point.
3. Contest closes on March 30th, 2015, 7:00am CST.

Trivia Questions:
1. What U.S. coin bears five dates on it and none of them are the date in which the coin was struck?

2. Who was the first woman (who actually lived) to be placed on a U.S. coin?

3. What year is this Indian Head Cent?
Indian Head Cent.jpg
4. That 'D' mint mark did not always mean Denver, Colorado. Where was the other mint that honored the 'D' mint mark?

5. What was the original occupation of the original Jefferson Nickel's designer?

That's a pretty impressive symbol! I like it. It is not the "official" banner that goes under your name, but I have to admit, the symbol definitely attempts to spread the word about this awesome website.

Under consideration...

 Thanks Mark for doing this Contest ! It's been awhile since we've had one and I think everyone should take the initiative and do one of their own if they can . I've done several and had just as fun doing the Contest as participating in them . So let's give Mark a big Thank You !! :yourock:

I plan on doing my own in the near future and if you've seen my Contests, you'll definitely want to play along since I always give away several Prizes and BONUS Coins or Currency in addition to the advertised Prizes .
I just have a couple hints for the Contest right now : It will be a Chance/ skills Contest possibly ( Guessing how many Coins in a jar or guess the grades for example ) , secondly it will consist of Mostly Kennedy Halve's and Susan B Anthony Dollars ( the dollar coins will be my extra Bonus prizes ) , one Franklin half (1st Prize ) and maybe a Morgan Dollar for a Grand Prize ( getting the exact amount of Coins in a jar for example ). I just have to figure out the Contest. It might be a " 2 ways to win " Contest ( 2 separate contests in one ) .
So, when I'm ready, I'll give everyone a fair chance by Pre-Posting the start Date/ Time ( eastern time )

Here's going to be the Grand Prize :

Well, with that last entry, I'll have to concede a winner has claimed the prize. Congratulations, Paul on getting all 30 points!

Just a small tidbit on question #5. Felix was a drifter going from job to job throughout his life. Because his father was a sculptor, Felix went to college to study as a youth. After a year of college, he was drafted into the German army. Shortly after being in the army, he received an award for a fountain he had designed and built while in college. Because he had received payment for something he did prior to the army, I also claim that his "first job" was sculptor. (Based on his biography.)

thx c, i actually "LEARNED" something from this contest....which i think this why d has this site setup for,'learning'....

i 'did know' most of the info in the questions, but not about "nickels"...as i don't "collect" them (i do have the major vars though), & i'm not a 'nickel know-it-all',..... like that he was a 'sculptor', & that '66 was the exact 'year' for the d.i.1 'FS' put on the design.
there was alot more info i could have posted for each question, but kept it to what i thought was the 'key info'.....

1. DESIGNERS INITIALS

:eureka:
some more nik tidbits:

Great info!
I learned as well...
For instance, FS was not on the original design because Felix Schlag did not know he was allowed to put them on the contest design.

It was the numismatic groups discovering that Felix was still alive and desiring to honor him that resulted in pressure to finally put his initials on the nickel.

Thanks for all the participation! Makes contests much more fun.
