1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). Relic Find
Ok, so this isn't a coin but I don't know where else to turn and maybe someone can get me going in the right direction. I belong to another forum as well and we are all stumped on the history and ID of this Cufflink a member from Lexington, Kentucky found in a field.
Thanks. Any help will be appreciated even if you can give me a link to an expert on this sort of thing.- Daniel

Re: Relic Find
I am not an expert and sorry that I don't know any experts. However, I can offer an opinion. It's possible that a local whitesmith in Kentucky engraved this cuff link. It is common to find items intricately engraved from this era, as you already know. What I can't figure is if these are military or not and I know that would make a difference in value. I try to find something on these but doubt I could do much better than others who have tried.

Re: Relic Find
The women who found the cufflinks said she thinks the motif might be of General Layfayette who visited Lexington just 5 miles down the road to attend a funeral of a friend otherwise known as Joseph Crockett the Uncle of the Famous Davey Crockett !!! She's been hunting what used to be Joseph's Homestead. So, I think right there we are getting closer to who's they were and why they were wearing them . I embarrassingly don't know much about either except that I learned about them in school but forgot. I would have to look up a pic of the General to see if it resembles him . We believe it's Silver but she's afraid to remove the dirt build up because she doesn't know how to remove it safely. I heard Mineral Oil is safe and softens up the years and years of dirt if it is Silver.

Re: Relic Find
It's somoe good information but the face is too crude for identification. If you can find an image of him in that pose that would help, but no way to prove that's him without documentation. It's still a good find and I wouldn't clean it myself.
