It fits onto something. I see the hooks that slide into slots. I think. Will you be posting more images?

I like the prize, but have no idea what it is right now. Need to ponder....

It looks like part of a brake assembly for an old car or truck( 30s-40s). Many old cars had all metal to stop them.

You guys are doing a good job with guessing, but this item is much older than you guys think. I will give you a few more hints.

*It is hard to tell from the picture, but the things sticking out of the bottom of the new photos are actually square nails. Or whats left of them at least.

For those who don't know they stopped using square nails around 1900. They make for a great dating tool.
If you find square nails at the place you are detecting there is a good chance that something was there before 1900.

*Second hint is that this item was found in a logging camp dating back to the 1840's-1850's.

Maybe a cross cut saw handle part. But hey I like guessing when I don't know anything. :l I was first thinking that is was a blade stop part for a 2012 Stil chain saw, but the nail thing got me all messed up. :w

It looks like something for a horses hoof, and they used horses to pull logs. Although this would be only half of it. I did know the square nail aspect of it. I have found wood with square nails.
