I think I got it. That is a banana style ox shoe, which were used in pairs on the animal!

Nice job dipper13! You got it! I'm not sure about the banana style so you may be teaching me something :l but it is definitely an oxen shoe.

Oxen were used primarily to help settlers move west during the early 1800's up til about the 1850's. My understanding is that these are fairly hard to find considering they weren't as popular as horses during those times. I've metal detected other logging camps and never found any so I'm assuming that this logging camp had them because of it's age. Also dipper you pointed out another fact which is that oxen had to have two shoes because of their hooves.

Nice job on this you guys. I hope somebody had fun and learned something at least

Yes. I did learn something, but I had a hunch it was for a hoof, at first. I never thought for a minute about an oxen.

I forgot to mention. The part that you thought fit into something was actually meant for giving them traction when walking on ice. The loggers would actually spray water down on the trail so that it would freeze into ice. This would make the sleighs ride easier in the winter with a load of logs on them. Horse shoes I've found at logging camps also have these spikes on the bottom.
