First 2011 coin finds

#1 Unread post by Nolifeking »

Well I decided to go down in my yard today metal detecting. It was cold, windy and even snowing, but I decided to give it a shot. I've been meaning to take my 6in excellerator coil around the yard. There is a 20 yard long electrical line that runs from the house to the garage and my 12in coil has always gone nuts through there so I've always skipped it. Tonight I decided to give it a shot. I ran pag 2 and ac 65. Still getting a little feedback from the lines. Might try lower next time. Here are my findings from a 20yd by 10 yard strip.

1917D merc
1941D washington
1945D wheatie
1956D wheatie
1953 canadian
an old button?

The 1956D wheatie I found in the same hole as the 1953 canadian and the 1945D wheatie and 1941D washington I found about 3 inches apart.

Nice finds, can't complain about that. Any silver found for nothing is a good thing.

Yea I can't believe prices lately. I remember just a year and half ago I was buying silver online for $15 an ounce and I stopped because I thought that was too high! I wish I'd had bought a ton more! I don't have many silver finds with my metal detector. Included these tonight I have 8 silver dimes, 2 quarters, and 3 wartime nickels. Not much to show for Mding for almost 9 years. This is only my second year really going for coins.

Any idea if the thing in the top right of the last pic is an old button. I have found I think 4-5 of these so far in this yard and when I showed them to my grandpa he said they were really old buttons.

I got a couple confirmations now on a metal detecting site I belong to that the button looking thing is actually a hem weight. These were used to hold down the skirt of a dress from blowing up. Just thought I'd mention it in case some has found one or finds one in the future.
