1845 Large cent grading

#1 Unread post by zakota »

I guess I do need a break. I thought I posted this last night? THere are two holes on the obverse. The one looks as a deer print. The other does not have any sign of some one putting a hole in it. It seems as an air pocket. The sides are not turned in or disrupted. It is near the top. The other looks as a tear drop ear ring? The letters are good, the color of the coin makes the letters look well worn, but they are good. Is there a mint mark on these? I like these Large cents. It was when a cent was worth a penny :D

Here are the two holes. It looks as there is a slight gouge below the ear ring? These close ups also show you more of the condition of the coin surface.

All the Large Cents where struck in Philadelphia so they don't have a mint mark. I think the shallow holes where caused by air pockets inside the planchet metal and either during the strike or the surface being worn down they where revealed. I have had a couple coins like this.

What grade would you say on this coin?

I think VG. I think there's just a little to much detail to go lower.

I was not far off. I was figuring high G or VG.

I agree, and it's a VG IMO.
