1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). 1889 Canadian 5 cent
Hi folks. I just discovered your website and thought I would see if I could get an opinion here. I've misplaced my guide books and am unsure if there is a letter that goes with the date on this dime. I dug this out of the ground. There is some crust and staining on it. Would somebody care to give me an idea as to grading and value? I hope the pictures are big enough. Thanks very much.

I can help you out with the mint mark. It is on the reverse between the rim and the ribbon. It was usually an H, it looked to the eye as II. Have to wait for the boys with the knowledge. It looks as there is a lot of dirt yet, to be able to grade it. I will tell you that I have an 1881 H in VG-8 and it is worth about $7. If it grades the same as mine it is worth about $25. Good find. They are neat little coins. It is hard to believe that more people did not loose them because of the size.
From beginning to end,
life is life, no matter how you look at it.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting. You can came to the right place.
Good responce zakota. I will just add that the coin is obviously silver and might suffer some environment damage from being in the ground. I would first use soap and water to gently remove debri.
If I had to grade the coin as is, I would give it at least a net F12 pending surface damage. Feel free to post another picture after you try to remove the dirt.
