Jefferson Nickles DD?

#1 Unread post by zakota »

Here are three Jeff nickles that seem to have DD on scalp and Dome. The dates and DD are on the picture labels. Tell me if you see two or three domes on these. The first two photo's are of the same coin. What you think?

In these pictures the doubling has a shelf like appearance or flatness. I'm so sure that these are true doublings. You might try different angles.

Does it look as three domes or two to you. To me it looks like three. Looking at another nickle I see clearly one outline. These have three it looks like.

Here is another photo of the second 62P. They are flat. I can not take a photo at that angle and come out clear. The one on the scalp you can see the start of the DD at the top of the photo.

A little better. You might have something. I would wait until we get the 1976-S back from PCGS and see what they have to say, then you can use it for comparison.

It is pretty cool. I have a 61P and two 62P. One with front and back DD? There is one that is questionable on the obverse. It is hard to see, only by the nose. It is hard to see with the shine, but it is there.

I think this one is strike doubling. It's neat though. A bit hard to tell, but, it's neat.

Good luck with the 1976 DDO!

The last photo is the edge of the dome from the second photo up top. I am learning now the difference between machine and true DD. I am a slow learner. But the picture books help alot. I get very board reading. I am about half way through the error coins now. So may be more ignorant questions coming your way :D

I hope you do post the questions. I don't like to call it ignorance, but knowledge seeking.

Here are the 63, 64, 64D. The 64D is wild. It almost tore off the dome. there is a large crack on the east side of the dome from what had happened.

Here is one that my father had bars over letters. I have finally found what he seen. I also know why my close-ups are so bad. I do not have high enough DPI in camers, or resalution. I will have to purchase a better camera for close-ups. This one would have turned out better. it is hard to see what I am showing, but you can see. In a way it is better it has done this. The shine on the coin inhibits your view. You can see the lines on the left side of the letters.

Now those are what I would call very cool error's. I voted as though I could see three domes

I can't say what is what, but I think the Jeffersons you posted our mint errors. I think they are strike thrus or die gouges.

I did not post the obverse. In the same area on the 64 reverse chip or gouge the rim is flat on the obverse.
