1953D Die Clash

#1 Unread post by zakota »

You can even see in this scan Lincoln on the reverse. You can see it from every angle. It also looks as he has a dent in his forhead between his eye and hair line. All the little lines are from the 2x2 it is in.

I'm having trouble seeing the clashed features.

I would need a better photo of both sides to decide.

I guess I had posted it to quickly? I think I have learned what I see. Correct me if I am wrong. Later in the dies life they increase the pressure of the strike to lengthen the life of the die. So this occures on the coin. It is not really a die clash, but added pressure to the press. Is this correct? It shows like a ghost on the reverse. I am learning slowly, but surely :?:

I'm not sure what I'm seeing in these pics, but it's possible that after the die clash the mint continued using the same die, giving the appearance of the obverse on the reverse. it might be the reason it's so faint.
