1921 Morgan Vam

#1 Unread post by DIXIEROADIE »

I have this 1921 Morgan No mint mark I put it under the scope and you can see all kids of polishing lines in places like the nose mouth and in LIBERTY the cotton guts they are everywhere.I was told it was a VAM and it was in the elite clashed or hot 100 I do not really remember. On the reverse it has scratches in the arrow heads and around the legs, and more polishing marks in the eagles head and I almost forgot in the letter M in UNUM where the v in the Mis there is a line across it.I tried to go through all the listed Vams but got lost what do you all think. It has what looks like tons of doubling from the stars to the date, and I cracked the case it was in when I bought it,it was ungraded. It has a very mirrored surface but I am interested to hear your thoughts and grades or even a value.

This particular Morgan Dollar, if authentic, has been whizzed or polished. I can't see enough details in these pics to say much more. I recently found a 1921 Morgan VAM and have it listed on ebay here http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :MESELX:IT It might help you with yours. Do you have a digital camera with micro mode.

I have a digital camera,I will post some of the pics I took showing the polishing lines in the recessed areas. When I bought this coin it was in a cheap plastic case and I think it has been cleaned before I got it,because of how shiny it is.I know not to clean coins and I bought four coins from the same person and they all looked clean but at $10.00 each I still snapped them up,nothing else the silver value.I love the coins and really do not care that they have been cleaned,I could not pass up a bargain even for cleaned coins.

There's heavily polished VAMs, and VAM World has an extensive list. Have you checked there? $10 for any silver dollar is a good deal.

I gave up looking at all the possibilities, closest I got was Vam 40-A. It is amazing what a loup misses,I would never catch some of these details without my microscope.
