1985 ONE CENT COIN

#1 Unread post by xrayman »

Hello Everyone,
Hope everyone s doing great. Yes its been quiet a while, but of course i never forget my dear friends here at CoinHelp :)
Wanted to share something interesting to me, and would like your input on it.
Found this coin in some return change at a local store and found to have been this wierd type of interesting coin. Looking further into it when i got home with doing very little research was this 1985 Once Cent coin. The coin is grayish silver color, like a steel but it does not stick to a magnet. It has a strange sound like a silver piece coin when dropped onto the table. Also it is just a bit slight bigger than a normal one cent coin. Here i send some photos on it, maybe with your expertize you guys can help me determine what i have. May be counterfeit :dunno who knowa gotcoins:

Im curious to hear what you may wanna share. Take a look. hugeeyes Enjoy. And warm thanks to all.

It could be the zinc planchet without the copper plating but then we need to determine if it was missing or if someone removed it. Are their pits and lines into the surface of the coin that would hint at an post mint, plating removal?

Glad you are back. Was wondering how you were doing.
My first thought on seeing the 1985 cent was that it reminded me of the color of copper coils on air conditioner in homes from "Chinese Drywall". For those not familiar Chinese drywall problems, some gave off sulfur gasses that oxidized and corroded copper (as well as other metals around a home like silver) around the home.
Your image has specks of red in it (when enlarged to max) which leads me to think copper.
Is the penny normal weight for a 1985?

Hey Pete,
Thanks, everything is good here.

Back to this this coin. I have not weight it but if i had a 1985 one cent coin in each hand the gray one would seem to be the one to weigh less. hmm

Pete,
The photos posted on here were through my phone. And there does not appear any red spot what so ever. but it does appear to have tons on lines like type groves in a diagonal pattern. If you look clearly on the word "oF" In UNITED STATES oF AMERICA the word "oF" has some abnormality. And along side around the edges seems to have a grove on both sides of the outer rim..

It has gouges and lines in the surface and that's not normal.

It didn't happen at the mint so it's bad. I think your coin has been damaged after it left the mint.
