Silver down but prices are up

#1 Unread post by Daniel »

If you study the market like I do or buy silver you might have noticed that the melt value is down on silver, but the price of silver coins and bullion is not. It appears the numismatic value of silver is a percentage more than melt than it's ever been.

Has anyone else noticed this or have a comment?

I don't follow the silver market much but maybe there coin folks are thinking it will go back up or they bought at a high price and don't want to take a loss.

Yes, both of those reasons are true. Some dealers are actually holding off some of their inventory because of how much they paid verses how they can now sell it for.

I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination but "Supply and Demand" would be my guess. Collectors vs. bullion investors driving the market? I've noticed that some coin prices are up, not just silver. I would think as the economy has improved since the bottom in 2009 more money has become available for disposable income (hobbies and activities). As the demand has increased from beginners and those wanting to continue or expand their collecting they are looking to fill those holes in their collections which may tend to be lower grade.
Just food for thought!

LOl. It still made sense and is still true. Silver is in demand by the collector more than ever, but they're buying smarter. However, it's countries around the world and people with the most money that are controlling the market. Silver is under-valued.

How long can anyone hold down the price of silver? Silver is disappearing as it is used in industry. Look at solar panels, electronics and the like. It would seem to follow that the less there is physically, the more the price would climb.( supply and demand) I believe soon it will take off along with gold. I am waiting for that, Patience,Patience !!
