1995 Penny Clad Layer error Maybe?
I was going through some rolls of pennies today and I found this interesting looking penny. I have never seen anything like this before. Could this be a clad layer error or did someone just purposely drop some kind of chemical on this thing to make it like this? What is interesting and why I think it may be a mint error is that the blemish seems to be in the same spot on each side of the coin. Has anyone ever seen a penny like this from 1995? What do you think?
Thanks
Thanks

It appears to be toned, if it was missing the copper cladding, it would be gray in color due to the zinc planchet.

Ok and I guess that just occurs naturally over time not a mint error? So basically it's just a cool looking penny? LOL!

There's know such error coin as a missing clad layer on a cent ,what you have is a natural tonned coin ,only on dimes.quarters and halves and dollars after 1964 when they changed the alloy in the coins to less silver and as the years past less of silver compound ,since there are other alloys involved in the process of those denominations,a cent is mostly made up of copper zincEtc.
When you look at the other denominations you could see the side of the rims on those coins and the middle layer is copper not on a cent.

What varierror is trying to say is that cents are plated and not a clad coin.
Start every day with a smile and get it over with.

I hate to breake it to any one but there are 1995 clad penny errors. I should know I have one that I found in a bank box of penny rolls and yes it is a zinc only penny with noooooo copper coating on it . I would like to find outa value on it. And if any one can tell me how to load a pic from my galaxy s3 to this site ill post it along with othere penny errors that I have found.

Lol srry I thought it was a clad. In my pic I posted are three 1995 pennies . One is normal. One is a high yellow and the other is a straight zinc with no copper coating.

1995 cents are plated in a thin layer of copper and it's different than cladding where to coin metals are sandwiched together. The yellow 1995, in your images, appears to be "gold" plated and is of no extra value. It does appear you have a cent missing the copper plating and this coin should be certified. I would send it to ANACS because they don't cost as much as the others and they're a good service.
You need to protect this coin since zinc will oxidize and it appears your coin is getting some problems. It's worth something but no way to say how much until it's certified and is label as having a problem.
