Numismatic Apps for mobile phones

#1 Unread post by Daniel »

I would like for everyone to post a link to any numismatic related apps that you have found or use. Please tell us your opinion of the app from 1-5 stars. Here's an ebay app that I use to check my auctions via my Droid Ebay Mobile

I give this app 4.5 stars, and they offer this app for other phones as well.

Here are all the Mobile apps I was able to find available for Android and Apple. I have an older iTouch which does not support a lot of the Apple apps ...or they were more than they seemed worth by the reviews so I only tried a few ... but looked into them all. I noted the ones I have not tried. Android really had nothing until 'U.S. Coin Identifier' was released yesterday.

Coin Apps for Android:
• Coin Collecting Glossary ($.99): http://www.androlib.com/android.applica ... -Cmqq.aspx
• U.S. Coin Identifier ($1.99): http://www.androlib.com/android.applica ... -FzEp.aspx
Coins for iPhone/iTouch:
• Coins (MoneyMuseum)(Free): General info on 50 different various coins. Not very useful. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id305885 ... mpt=uo%3D6
• Coins of the US Mint ($0.99): List the coins currently being made/sold by the US Mint right now. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/coins-of ... 16714?mt=8
• CoinMobile (TM) Research System ($.99): Seems to be one of the better available by the looks of the screenshots but I have an older iTouch which does not support the app and have not tried it. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/coinmobi ... 77911?mt=8
• coinDatabase (Free): This app is also not very good if you ask me. Only has three demo coin sets and the other “catalogs” you have to buy. http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSt ... mpt=uo%3D6
• Coin Collecting Guide ($2.99): Looked OK but pretty bad reviews. Have not tried it. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/coin-col ... 66754?mt=8
• Pocket Change Prospector($1.99). This app looks OK but is geared more towards currently circulated pocket change errors. Did not try it. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pocketch ... 32531?mt=8
• iCoin$($9.99) : Did not buy it but looks like it might OK only geared more towards recording and getting values for collections of coins. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id315910 ... mpt=uo%3D6
• Coins Glossary ($0.99): This app for the most part just has the different terms used in numismatics. http://ax.itunes.apple.com/us/app/coins ... 656-Lockup
• PCGS Photograde(Free): For free the app is good for Photo Grading but has no additional info or features. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pcgs-pho ... 49339?mt=8
• U.S. Coin Collection ($0.99): App mainly just for keeping track of personal coin collection. Did not try it. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/u-s-coin ... 49449?mt=8

US Coins for iPhone (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/us-coin ... 22573?mt=8)
US Coins for Mac (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/us-coin ... 1359?mt=12)

Both of these App's work with the same data, sharing the data through Cloud based storage for the coin collection. I enter coins using the Mac version, then Backup to the Cloud, switch to my iPhone, Restore from the Cloud and then snap photos of my coins using my iPhone. It's very handy being able to have my collection with me on any Apple device.

There's an android one I use, Fancy Cash. Simple and helps flag potentially interesting notes for further research.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... .fancycash

I also am looking for other apps as well. I posted on a couple of other boards but it seems either people don't use apps/software or they are reluctant to reveal what they use like it is some kind of magical secret, so I appreciate this thread!!!!
