1975 Kennedy Half? (It grabs your attention!)
"What?" you say. I don't remember these being minted!!
In light of the recent contest here, these caught my eye. hugeeyes The site I have provided in this link certainly got my attention. Lots of pronouns are used on the site so it is hard to tell who actually produced these over strikes but I think it was Daniel Carr, who's design was used on the 2001 NY & RI state quarters as well as the 2003 Maine quarter) Enjoy!

Nice and it does look like Daniel Carr over-strikes. He did an 1964 Peace Dollar. Cool
Re: 1975 Kennedy Half? (It grabs your attention!)

I really don't remember them being minted. But the overstrikes do look like Daniel Carr's. Re: 1975 Kennedy Half? (It grabs your attention!)
BTW- There were NO U.S. halves minted with 1975 on them.
(Some for 1976 were minted in 1975 for the 1976 Bicentennial.)

These coins are quite rare. I am also a collector of coins because they tell us about history and I also have a good collection. I would like to include these coins in my collection.OscarPomeroy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2019 10:05 pmAll coins minted in 1975 and 1976 for the United States Bicentennial bore the dates.GregoryBittings wrote: ↑Fri Mar 25, 2461 4:13 pmRare as well as quite cool. Re: 1975 Kennedy Half? (It grabs your attention!)
I am a big fan of a lot of Daniel Carr's work. And yes, these are rare. The Kennedy set that was released for sale includes:
Daniel Carr overstrikes on Kennedy Half Dollars:
1963 P 90% - mintage: 305
D 90% - mintage: 341
1975 P 40% - mintage: 141
P Clad - mintage: 140
D Clad - mintage: 143 (39 with "circulated finish")
S 40% - mintage: 160 (24 circulated finish)
1975 Bicentennial REV:
P Clad - mintage: 135
P 40% - mintage 177
He also made a 1964 D Benjamin (mintage: 278).
And some Walkers (forgive my bad pics - taken awhile ago and make the coins look terrible - they are great in hand):
1915 S OBV - mintage 352 (53 "antiqued" finish)
1922 D - mintage 247 (13 "antiqued" finish)
1932 P - mintage 232 (19 "antiqued" finish )

Re: 1975 Kennedy Half? (It grabs your attention!)
Oops - forgot to add:
To head off the typical questions that arise on forums considering these:
1. No, in the US it is not illegal to OWN counterfeit money - which Daniel Carr's is not making anyway...see point 2.
2. Daniel's overstrikes are not considered counterfeits by the government since none of the dates/MMs he makes were ever actually made for distribution by the government*. You cannot counterfeit something that has not been made.
3. Yes...someone could get fooled thinking one of these was real if they accidentally took one of these in payment. But since the value of these is far more than .50 (close to 200.00 now!), the person receiving payment is getting a much higher value than they thought they were.
Interesting facts: These are made on a press formerly owned by the Denver mint. Daniel bought it from them.
He has made many other overstrikes for modern and classic American coins as well. He also makes medals and tokens.
The mint did make (I think it was) 250,000 Peace dollars for 1964 but melted all of them. PCGS has been offering a huge reward for a legit one for years now with no success. The mint 1964 Peace Dollars were recorded as having been melted. So Daniel made overstrikes twice of these. The first ones he made used to sell on ebay for close to 500.00 each.
In 2012 when a die for a 1921 Morgan dollar was found in the mint archives, showing the mint was in the way to making 1921 Morgans (but never did), Daniel produced some of those as overstrikes.

Re: 1975 Kennedy Half? (It grabs your attention!)
The US Mint produced Kennedy Half Dollars from 1964 to present. But none were issued with "1975" dates because the "1776-1976" Bicentennial coins were minted during the 1975 and 1976 calendar years. The diameter may be very slightly larger than normal.
Now available is this modern over-strike, the most exacting and faithful rendition available. Holding one in hand gives the viewer a true sense of what it would be like to own an original (had any actually been produced). And since these are over-struck on genuine coins, they have the correct weight (no metal is added or removed), correct metallic content, and correct diameter and edge type. All the over-strikes are privately and painstakingly performed using a surplus Denver Mint coin press.

Re: 1975 Kennedy Half? (It grabs your attention!)
Daniel Carr told me that he had problems initially trying to keep he overstrike half dollars from not becoming slightly larger when he overstruck them. I first noted the 1975s were having a problem fitting in my Air Tite capsules or 2X2s properly.

Another of my favorites:
Its 40% silver. The first Ike dollar design seen by the public was dated 1970 though none were ever made for that year.Common grading company shortcomings & resulting co$tly mi$take$ to collectors (using Kennedy No FG halves):

Earle, was this a typo? You are an expert so that is why I am asking. The mint made 1921 P,D,S Morgans in 1921. Were you talking of a mint replica? or perhaps a CC or O mintmark Morgan? or perhaps a 1921 D or S Peace dollar?

Hey thanks for pointing out my typo :)
The big news in 2012 was the mint found some 1964 Morgan dies in the storage vault. So Daniel made some 1964-D Morgan dollar overstirkes: Beautiful in hand!

Re: 1975 Kennedy Half? (It grabs your attention!)
You are correct. The mint never made any, but they did make the dies. This is why Daniel Carr could make overstrikes of them and its not counterfeiting. In hand they look perfect. And since they are made by overstamping a legit Morgan, plus made using a Denver press he bought/refurbished, its as authentic as it can be without having ben an actual US mint issued coin.
The mint did make some 250,000 Peace dollars in 1964, but destroyed all and none have been found. I think it was PCGS offering a huge reward for any that would surface. So Daniel Carr made 1964-D Peace dollar overstrikes as well. Again, his are just like a mint product for quality.
