1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). The coin should not be in government hands unless they bought it back; no way it can be illegal to own and all the other non-issues are allowed to be privately owned. Not to mention all the illegal errors that have left the mint, it's really sad.

I agree.
Have you seen these?

The Mint is confiscating 1804 Draped Bust dollars. (100 years ago.) But, they are still looking.

Re: The 1974-D Aluminum Lincoln Cent
From what I read from Mhonzel's links that is a real large part of the problem. IF the mint made them and they were spirited (stolen?) from the mint should they be left in private ownership. I'm no legal expert but it seems like it has to be on a case by case basis to prove one way or the other. If the coins were never given away and still belong to the mint they belong to all of "U.S." to enjoy, not just those with enough $ to purchase stolen goods. (There must be a good cloak and dagger novel in those coin stories some where!) happydance:mikev50 wrote:if the mint makes a coin then it should be legal to own-----

Re: The 1974-D Aluminum Lincoln Cent
I agree to a point, but this has to go all across the board for fairness. We see dramatic errors and know of many other coins that were removed from the mint like the 1913 V Nickel.
If ALL coins that were not supposed to be removed from the mint are confiscated and returned and displayed in the Smithsonian for all to see, then I am all for it. Otherwise, past practice must prevail and if a coin is found then it should remain with the finder. No proof that the 1974-D Aluminum cent was stolen from the mint, 15 were given out then they were supposed to be returned when rejected, many of them were not returned.
Unless there's a physical record or eye witness then there's no proof a coin was stolen from the mint, mint employees from top to bottom used to gift and sell coins to special collectors and give them to statesmen and officials. So let people own what they find, and just stop the modern dramatic errors and confiscate them.
