1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. 1804 silver dollar
Hello,
My husband and I are currently living in Thailand and are coming back to the states in a month. One of my husbands students is considering buying this coin but we are unsure if it is authentic or not. She did a magnet test on it (because I read online that that is something we should do) and it didn't stick to the magnets. If any of you could tell us if this looks like it is something that we should look further into, we would appreciate it. I don't have to weight or the measurements right now though.
Thanks so much!
Toni

Re: 1804 silver dollar
Class I examples were made circa 1834 - these all have lettered edges and no rust pit in the field just left of the top leaf of the olive branch on the reverse. Only 8 examples are known.
Class II examples were made after 1857 - the only known specimen has a plain edge. Only 1 example is known.
Class III examples were made after 1857 - they all have lettered edges and a rust pit in the afore-mentioned place on the reverse. Only 6 examples are known.
The devices (Lady and Eagle) on your coin are far too small.
(Here's an authenticated one to compare against.)

The reverse gives it away. Do not buy, it is a fake. Look how small the Eagle is, it is not even a good copy. Dan

Re: 1804 silver dollar
All of them are known and in known collections so your coin is not likely authentic. It might be made of silver but not be authentic. Can you post an image?
