I do not know when they stopped washing the Kennedy half-dollar planchets in that soapy mixture that led to "milk spots". So, I am curious about this particular 1979 S Type 2 Proof. Of course, I couldn't see this as well when I bought it, but now that I am going through photographing all my coins, this one kind of stands out.
Milk spots are usually whitish. These are yellowish. Is it soap, or did somebody sneeze before it was sent in? (On both sides)

Re: Kennedy in Soap
I wish I had an answer since these spots drive me nuts but make spot free coins much more valuable.
I would say it was caused by some planchet wash before the planchet was struck.

Re: Kennedy in Soap
wow m, that's really noticeable.... hugeeyes
do you recall if this coin was 'yellowish' when you got it?....or became a 'more/deeper yellow' over time?
i can't see the fields ("black-field image"), but do they have a yellowish 'twinge' also?

Re: Kennedy in Soap
I have a 1978 with a similar problem, but no where near as profound.
I was pretty sure all my Kennedys were NOT yellowish. About two months ago, my basement flooded and all my coins saw a high moisture content for a while even though stored in boxes, encapsulated, dessicant, etc.
Maybe this one "leaks" and it started reacting.
