1988 D Lincoln Cent Error?

#1 Unread post by Stanley »

Hello,
I attached a few pictures of a 1988 "D" Lincoln cent. Is anyone familiar with this type of error on the mint mark? I cannot find anything on it. Thank you!

The zinc core under the copper plating is corroding. Zinc rot not an error.

Thanks, I had never seen the sunken in area around the "D" on any coins. I appreciate your time.

I attached a side view picture that will possibly answer whether or not the area is raised. Thank you.

:greatfind: I've found several pennies that had slight indentations but not that much ! Maybe the person who adjusts the pressure on the machine went a little overboard ??
As far as value, I'm willing to bet most collector's would pass on paying a premium, unfortunately . I have some really cool Errors and their not even worth that much .
