1913 5C Type 1 DDR FS-1802 With a twist or two
I just purchased this 1913 5C Type 1 PCGS graded MS64 Buffalo for $90. I bought because I believe it to be a DDR FS-1802. Further examination revealed a reverse 10* CCW offset and LIBERTY TY on the obverse. When comparing this DDR to other PCGS DDR’s, mine looks as detailed, lustrous and free of defects as the MS66 and maybe even the listed MS67+. Please give any and all opinions on this “gem”. The photo’s are off the listing and are shot through the holder and may be a little distorted, but are clear enough to see the details.

Hello. I agree, MS-64 seems a tad low . However, I don't think it would get as high as MS66 though and PCGS is the " King" as far as TPG's go.
Where are you seeing doubling on reverse ?? Thanks

I used PCGS and Variety Vista to comparison of the reverse indicators and to me they look identical in all the same photos. The obverse also shows the same weak LIBERTY strike. What do you make of the extra TY on LIBERTY?SensibleSal66 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 4:22 am Hello. I agree, MS-64 seems a tad low . I can't tell from the photo about the TY in Liberty .

After reviewing all 5 of Heritage sold 1913 1802 DDR’s, they are all 10* Reverse rotations. Does anyone know if this is a unique characteristic of the DDR?

I did an overlay of the 1802 obverse and a normal 1913 reverse rotated 10* and properly flipped L/R and T/B. I can now see what causes all of the 1802 variances. It starts with a die clash (10* rev) and ends with a die workers smoothing and repairs to the obverse and reverse. I haven’t found the cause of the LIBERTY TY anomaly.

Do you have any way to get a close-up shot of the "PLU of PLURIBUS"?

These are some images from Variety Vista for the 1913 DDR-004, RDV-002 Bison on flat ground (single photo) and DDR-006 RDV-002 Bison on flat ground (3 photo group) that clearly show up on this coin.

Here is a closeup from the same photo that I enhanced the sharpness, contrast and brightness on. Does this help?

Re: 1913 5C Type 1 DDR FS-1802 With a twist or two
Thanks,
This could be a possible LDS 1802?
The "Resolution" of your close-up imaging device does not have sufficient clarity to render a >60% positive attribution with the Internet images posted here.
100% verification would need to be ascertained by a personal first-hand inspection due to die state.
It should be notice to everyone who reads this post…
Just because a coin has a "Marker" of a known variety, does not necessarily mean that it is that variety.
