Re: Quarter, nickel, dime errs
I'm reposting your photos cropped down and turned so that I can mark them up. Dime: The letters are smaller because the coin has been smashed inwards from the edge resulting in the lettering being deformed. 20160302_134352.jpg The dies were not deformed this way, nor is the planchet cut in the odd s...

Re: Quarter, nickel, dime errs
Mint errors occur in the process of making a coin. That means that something went wrong between cutting the planchet and actually striking the coin. Once the dies move away from the coin, the coin is considered made. Anything that happens to the coin after this point is Post-mint Damage (PMD). The c...

Re: Quarter, nickel, dime errs
The quarter and dime appear to be coins that got some rough treatment in life, but I would consider PMD.
The nickel appears to have environmental damage. There is a lot of roughness to what should be smooth areas on the coin.
None of the three would have been made at the mint like this.

They are mirror images. The I, D, O, & E can confuse you because they look the same when upside down. Make sure you are looking at it as you photographed. Compare to similar letters just below on the unaltered area.

I've been watching these coins for some time... (10 years) And, it was finally time to go in for one. (Mostly because I got it for 'spot' price.)

Re: 1993 Roosevelt Dime - No Information
Actually, both words; ONE DIME are backwards.
This happened when another DIME was laid on top of this one and smashed into it leaving a reverse image from the other DIME.
It is considered PMD (post-mint damage) and adds no value to the coin.

Just a side note: Colorized Silver Eagles are actually pretty common. You can find them by looking for the phrase "Colorized Silver Eagle" on Google. This is why we are asking you about the dealer you mention. He told you this was rare and that got us concerned. The going price for a new c...

Could you post a photo of these dateless coins? That would really help us.
But, what I suspect is that you have a 2009, or later, Sacagewa dollar and the date is probably on the edge of the coin.

Quite possible, but kind of difficult to tell in this photo.
As always, a photo of the whole coin, front and back helps immensely. Then, we can use information from the rest of the coin to find others like it for comparison.

This coin was turned on a lathe to remove the reverse. Another coin would be altered so that the head side remained with the rim missing. The two are then put together to create a two-headed coin.
See the seam on the "reverse" side of the coin... (two rims)

What you see is where another penny was pressed into this one. This occurred after the coin left the mint, so it is named Post Mint Damage (PMD).
It adds no value to the coin.

I don't think the 001 has all the obverse polishing and less on the reverse. I'm not 100% on this. But, what I could find indicated that a die clash occurred later in the 001's life that the mint tried to "clean up". It may be the 001. I was looking for some feedback. Especially since the ...

This coin should make you wonder "What happened?" A 1983 DDR. I don't know if it has a FS number. Some places refer to this as DDR-002. Somewhere during the doubled die pair's life, a clash occurs and some major polishing to the dies occur. (I suppose that makes this MDS, but it doesn't ha...

Several of us have microscopes if you'd like a better opinion. I have to say when I looked close at some of these, I was thinking the lines might be raised. Re: 1992-P Nickel, lines and strange corrosion. what happened?
Improper annealing would be my guess on the discoloration, especially the mottled reverse.
The lines appear to be an attempt to scrub the coin (ie. wire brush?) since they are not all parallel and differing widths. I'd bet on PMD.

The correct weight of 1914 Yuan Shih Kai silver dollar should be from 26.5g to 26.9g. Diameter should be from 38.50mm to 39mm and thickness: 2.5mm. Heritage puts this at about $1200, when not damaged. Burnished is something the mint has been doing since 2006 to make it look better than a business strike. Since this is before that time, Burnished can mean harshly cleaned and is likely the reason for the Details grade. I think this coin is damage...
