Re: 1968 Lincoln Cent

If you look at any scratch or gouge with this much magnification you will see grooves, think glacial grooves. It also going to depend on what gouged your coin, but this didn't happen at the mint. Gouges in the die would be raised areas on the coin.

Looks like minor die chips and die deterioration or just damage. It’s not a mint error.

Re: Strike quality effect on early Lincoln grading

Looks like a partial or near clipped planchet. My recommendation is examining coins in higher grades to see the differences. It’s usually the amount of contact marks and where they’re at than anything else.

It’s a die chip, called a BIE, but they not worth that much and we can’t tell you what to expect but it’s not going to fill your tank with gas.

Congratulations! A very nice find! I don't think it would hurt to send it to ANACS, that would give you a net grade and help preserve it.

Re: 1988 P/1994 P Double headed nickel

For one it's impossible to have an authentic coin made like this, it can't happen at the US Mint. You got to understand the coin minting process and that there's only one two tailed nickel ever created during the US Mint history.

I don't think you can tell the date and it's not going to matter, it's not going to be worth more and with this amount of wear and damage it's not going to be a variety.

Hidden minor details are not a thing nor would add any value to a coin and if all of them look like this then it's normal and ads no collectible value to the coin.

We can't always explain how a coin was post mint manipulated but the fact this isn't a genuine clipped planchet and can't happen during the minting process, is all that matters.

So many factors come into play on how much a coin sells for, I would use Grey sheet coin dealer newsletter and you can get 10% back of that from a dealer but you can get 10% to 20% more than greysheet, if you sell them yourself.
