Re: 1861 IHC : Grade me... please
Looks like a 64/65. I think it is clean enough for a five in the fields, strike is good, color hard to judge from pix. Is that a fold over or an illusion caused by the holder?

That coin is not round, had to be squeezed by something that made it oval. Did not happen at the mint, for sure.

This coin has a foreign substance not used in the minting process. If not a glue, possibly an epoxy. This is not a mint error.

That coin has PMD, post mint damage on the edge. The coloring is from exposure to chemicals that have reacted to the copper.

Re: Silver down but prices are up
How long can anyone hold down the price of silver? Silver is disappearing as it is used in industry. Look at solar panels, electronics and the like. It would seem to follow that the less there is physically, the more the price would climb.( supply and demand) I believe soon it will take off along wit...

The 1867 coin is not a dime, but a three cent nickel in pretty good condition. The 1938 nickel is common, but if uncirculated, has some numismatic value.

In the 1960s several firms stamped a Lincoln penny with the face of Kennedy to honor both as civil rights martyrs. They sold for a buck or two each. I believe that is what you see, not done at the US mint.

There has to be truth in what they say. Those coins could not all be resubmitted. Who would resubmit a coin already tied for finest. The only answer is preferential grading for volume customers. This stinks!!

Pretty coin. I bet it got banged around as a bulk submission. I sent NGC some 1959 pennies, looking for 65 or betters. Got them back, but several were scratched.( 400 coins 10 65s and one 66!) 1959 pennies are horrible.

Many of these have been known for decades. There should be a time limit, a statute of limitations, if you will. As time goes on facts become cloudy or even change , next they will confiscate coins from the 1800s. Boo

Re: Is this a mint error? Valuable?
I found that many coins were used as necklaces or bracelets. Some times the date of the coin is the birth year of the wearer. The mint cannot hole a coin by mistake, it is not possible in the process. The hole at the top means some one wanted to wear it obverse side out.

It looks like metal scrap from a lathe. As a kid I used to have a summer job running equipment in a gasket factory. This looks like that material. No offense but a silver round is a silver round. There are no more $ for style points. They are barter pieces tied to the current price of the precious metal they are made of. Coins of a country can have intrinsic numismatic added value.
