Re: The "Minor" Error Coin
This is a Lamination error. In the pre-1982 cents they were thought to occur due to an Improper Alloy Mix. For those that may not know, that means the alloy used to make these coins was either under mixed, disproportionate, or contained impurities. The error can be found on one or both sides of a co...

Yeppers, they're not to0 hard to find, when they use the dies too long, they get pretty nice. Glad you like it, thanks for the comments. Now what did I do with that Lamination error I was going to post?
Edit: I'm new here. I couldn't find my last reply here, so I wrote this one. Pardon me please.

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing it. Hard to imagine how a man with the patience to make such a recovery, could clean them with steel shot and detergent. It reminds me of the people that found that large gold coin hoard a few years ago. I think it was in California, but I'm not sure. Anyway, the...

Thanks Cliff. I bought some rolls on the cheap from a friend that had inherited them. It turned out that the man that collected them had collected only by date and mint. I found a few different errors , and a nice Doubled die. Even I get lucky once in a while. lol

Re: The "Minor" Error Coin
As promised, here's another "minor" error coin. There are two other long and drawn out names for it depending on which expert you talk to, and in the broader category it's an Over Used Die error. Most collectors call it a Ghosting Error. It's caused by the process of die attrition, ie...wh...

Re: 2013-P Jefferson Major Trail Die w/ Wavy Steps
QUESTION:
why have i not seen 'trail dies' in VEDS1 coins ?
You won't see many in later die stages because the trails are only slightly recessed in the dies. As the die wears, they are among the first things to disappear. I think VLDS (very late die state) is what you meant.

Re: 2017 dime error?
It appears the I and L have been inscribed on your coin. If so, that would be something that happened after the coin was minted, and would not be a mint error. I'm unable to tell from the picture if the line is raised on your coin or recessed. If it's recessed, it's also post mint damage. If it's ra...

Re: The "Minor" Error Coin
I said I'd post some pictures of error coins. Since we're on the subject of Over-Polished Die errors, here's a 1970-D most commonly referred to as The Floating Roof. These can be found throughout the Lincoln Memorial series. The die was overly polished in what was more than likely an attempt to remo...

Re: The "Minor" Error Coin
The BIE error was originally a chip that served as an "I" between the B and E. That's why it was called the BIE. It has since been expanded to be included anywhere in Liberty. A chip anywhere in Liberty is classified as a BIE, there are also sub-classifications of the BIE corresponding to ...

About three years ago, I saw a Bounty Hunter metal detector in Sam's Club for $99. It was no frills, but did come with a pair of headphones. These coins are awesome, excellent condition. Very nice! The messages on them speak volumes about the people of that time. Re: 1953 Lincoln Cent Date ERROR ??
I agree, depending on which pic you're looking at, it looks like Die Deterioration Doubling (thick, mushy, towards the rim, sometimes with separation). Other pics look more like MD (with striation lines at edge, flat, shelf-like, follows the device, on both sides with a triple strike). To me the fir...

2013-P Jefferson Major Trail Die w/ Wavy Steps
Here's an unusual Variety/Error coin I'd like to share. The coin could be in better condition, but it should be able to give those not familiar with it a better feel for the error. Trail Dies have increased in numbers and severity since the institution of the single squeeze minting process. They are...

At first I was thinking worn die because it flows toward the perimeter, but when you cleaned it, the striation lines sealed it MD. The loose die moved at the strike in the area of upset. MD aka Strike Doubling.

Sorry about the pictures, they are not my best. If you look at the R, T, and Y, you can see the normal width of the verticals. The doubling on the L, I, B, and E seems to enlarge the devices. At the same time, the enlarged devices appear to be flattened. The coin came out of an UNC roll, I'll compar...
