Re: 1956 D/D very visable two D's
Dear Mr. conhnter612,
That's a fine looking die rotation! If I may ask a question -- when you photographed the reverse, did you flip the coin over as "head over heels" or did you turn it from side to side, as you would turn pages of a book??
Thank you.

Re: Trying to take pics of 1972
Hi Pauly -- Yes, I have a lot of trouble getting a full sized coin in view. And a slab is almost impossible to photograph properly. I think you're right about the AM3000 series. But I'm going to try Mark's little trick and see if that helps. I have an appointment this morning so I may not be able to...

Re: Trying to take pics of 1972
Mark, my scope is held in a goose neck stand that has a round, flat base on it that's about 4" or so in diameter. So, are you saying I could raise the scope by setting it on 4-5 books, lean it out a ways, and then I'd be able to get the whole coin, or most of it??

Hello 2cent, A friend of mine who lives in Oregon gave me a Lot of Canadian Cents about 2 years ago. Every single one of them was rotated 180 degrees!! I was totally blown away. I put one on eBay starting at a pretty low price (I can't remember exactly how much). It sold for something like $150 TO A...

It’s funny how a certain event can occur (such as Chief Big Mouth Braggart) that triggers conversations between folks beyond the event. I don’t usually have much to say on this forum, and nothing really worthwhile to post (I keep searching, though!). But I surely enjoy reading nearly every post all ...

How cool that must have been for you -- having your picture in the newspaper while detecting with your Dad! I'll bet that will be one of your best memories for years and years to come. You know, every time one of my grandkids comes over and finds me searching coins, or listing them on eBay, they are...

Hi Sal! Well, ya know, I can’t be having people mistaking me for a man. That happened to me a long, long time ago. When I was born, the hospital checked the wrong box where it said ‘male’ or ‘female’. I grew up being a male until I went to get a marriage license. Couldn’t get one!! County Records pi...

Dear Mr. CopperFinger,
It's Mrs. Granky! And you are most welcome! Yes, I just got a new scope that I'm trying to learn how to use, too. It's difficult b/c there are no hard and fast rules. Each coin looks way different under the scope than the last one. Seems like the lighting is the key.

I just got a new scope, which I will put to use on this coin for you when I have an extra minute or two. For now, though, I will post the pics of the coin that I scanned on my scanner, just so you can get an idea of what it looks like.

Dear CopperFinger,
I have a 2004 Lincoln Cent sporting a rotated reverse of about 80° clockwise. Give me a little time, and I'll try to get a picture up for you.

Dear Mr. 2centsal, No worries. You can replace my pics with yours any old time! Specially since yours are a whole lot nicer than mine, that's fer sure! Thank you, pahwa. Because of your comments, I've decided to hold the grandkids at bay and hold this quarter in a flip! I think you may be right -- there's something going on with this coin. I don't know what it is, and it may indeed turn out to be nothing at all. But you just never know. You know, t...

Hi Pahwa. Thank you for your comments. No, the areas in question are not raised above the surface; they are -- what's the word -- hmm.... Well, the areas go down below the surface of the coin. Incuse!! Is that the right word? And I know what you mean about having your vision go kinda cattywampus loo...

Is this a "Defective Planchet?"
Hello Everyone! I have a coin here -- a 1969 Washington Quarter out of the Denver Mint that was sold to me as a "defective planchet." Being the novice that I am, I must either take the seller at his word, or come here to be set straight by the experts. I think the obverse represents PMD, b...
