Re: 1953 Lincoln Cent Date ERROR ??

It looks to me like the surface of the working hub was not parallel when it struck the die face the second time (If this is even possible). I say this because it appears the surface plane of the two strikes look to intersect at the blurry area of the bottom loop of the 3. (Just above the center poi...

Re: 1953 Lincoln Cent Date ERROR ??

Would this be a late die state, judging by the die flow lines?
And do I see 2 short curves on the inside of the upper loop just above the center "V" or are they just die scratches?

Re: 1988 reverse of the 1989

I'm not 100% sure on the reverse image you provided for the 1989, but with these tired hugeeyes I think your image is a normal 1989 (RDV-006). The end of the top of the "G" appears to stop short of the vertical bar of the bottom of the "G". Also, it may be a plating issue on the bottom right corner...

Re: 1988 reverse of the 1989

Are the two images following the 1988 both of the 1988?
Because the first one following the 1988 image is the RDV-006 (Rev. of 1989) but the last image is too blurry.

Re: help

Welcome! Well done Mark. I could see what looked like "zinc rot" even without enlarging the image. Mija, in case you're not familiar with "zinc rot", Lincoln cents were produced with a copper plating over a zinc core, beginning about half way through 1982 until the present. The "rot" can start when...

Welcome and thanks for posting.
Yeh, looks like something struck it at the base of the 9 to give it that odd shape.

I can't really tell if this is a proof. The "no S" variety would be on a proof.

That is sweet Mike. Congratulations.
Something really satisfying about those double ears. I have found a couple of double ear wheats but that one is really nice and is on my want list. Guess I need to start looking at Memorials, huh? lol:
