Re: Finning Error?

I agree with Daniel. I've got coins with die cracks that graded MS-70.

Re: Civil War Tokens

Next to my avatar of Lindenmeuller, I think this one is my next favorite. The PA765J-1a depicts a man of the times enjoying his vice of smoking a pipe. Another great advertising piece and offering the 20 percent discount if you use real US coins to make a purchase... Of course, you'll get tokens for...

Re: Finning Error?

As described, this would be a misaligned die, or MAD. Helps if we can see both sides of the coin.
Small amounts of misalignment are within tolerance for a coin and add no value to the coin, but should have been a point off for grading of the coin. (At least in my opinion.)

Re: Genuine Atocha Silver Coin?

No. I was trying to determine if it was a real reale. The Atocha coins were all pretty worn and then Mel cleaned them to be shiny.

Re: Genuine Atocha Silver Coin?

Mel Fisher and his son discovered the Atocha and turned to selling most of these coins as jewelry. His method of clamping the coin into a ring of silver is common among all but his most expensive jewelry. (see below) Even he sells replicas, which blows my mind, but there you go. Re: Genuine Atocha Silver Coin?

On the lower picture, the DIAA are in the correct position for the lions and castles.

The top picture is also correct, but rotated, which is a common problem.

The wear is typical.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of fakes sold as .925 fine silver jewelry.

Re: U.S. or CANADA? Blank or worn planchet?

So I looked a bit deeper into the Civil War tokens...
The blank F-536 is a contender. It is only known to have been matched with the F-535 and bears a wreath on the "blank" side. And, it was copper. But, look at the denticles.

Re: U.S. or CANADA? Blank or worn planchet?

Apparently, I can't read... you provided the other info I needed.
To be a civil war token blank known as F-519 or F-1427: 1. There are none known to be "blank" on both sides. 2. And, in this case, the dentils are too large.
