What had me doubting the machine doubling is that the matt finish carries through on the "shelf" and on the sides of the font. Wouldnt the die scraping at those areas leave a smooth or streaky surface? Would a double struck coin exhibit what is going on here? Also, when i super impose the...

We'll have to agree to disagree, the graders look at coins for seconds and will not note errors or varieties unless you point them out and pay extra for the few seconds it takes to see that the error is there. While their are true grading experts in varieties they are not at TPGs, they are at CONEC...
