Re: TPG,s light
I have no problem getting luster with a LED light. It's just a matter of setup. I tend to stay away from incandescent lights because they change color output as they age.

Introduction
I probably should have posted here first (May 16, 2019) before posting other places. I signed up for this forum after seeing Daniel on YouTube via my TV. I found him to be very inciteful, staying on topic, not dragging out the topic, keeping his video's short and to the point. Also, by bring up top...

Re: 1991 D/D?
The US Mint stopped hand punching mint marks in 1990 so there's no repunched mint mark for 1991 and this would be plating disturbances caused by die wear or plating blister.

Re: Double struck coins
You should be reading error-ref.com. A double struck coin is struck by the die more than once, a die clash is a coin struck by dies that clashed together prior without a coin in between. http://www.error-ref.com/

Sell or not to sell
Sorry this post is so long. I am writing this post mainly for myself as I find writing things down helps me retain the information. Re: Sell or not to sell
Very well said and so true. It takes dedication and lack of social life lol: to make it work Do it for the fun, enjoyment, and knowledge and eventually, you may stumble across some semi-valuable ones eventually. We've all been there thinking we found something that must be valuable because there is ...

You're welcome and thanks for being a part of it. My take is no coin is going to worry me like that. Before that would happen I would pay a fee to send it to Paul or someone at CONECA.

Re: New member
No conclusion can be drawn with and under or over weight coin, unless it is damaged and that is evident in an image. You just can't see slight weigh differences online. So you can send it to PAUL of this community to examine it and measure your coin.

Re: Magnification vs Resolution
Unless someone has bad eye site or they're a variety specialist mapping die markers for new or die stages and states of varieties, microscopes are more harm than help. If you're really experienced then fine but newbies will just see way too many things that mean very little.

Re: 1978 ? dime
You ask strike type and that has nothing to do with proof, proofs are die finish and were struck more than once. Some had slightly different design elements and some were retired then used on business strikes. Research and education should be your main focus here and I direct you to use err-ref.com ...

Re: 1939 S RPM-001 S/S Northeast Stage B
You're welcome. Not to split hairs but you found a nice variety as opposed to an error. Error would be like a double struck, off-center, brockage, etc. and tend to be similar but not exactly alike if duplicates are produced. Varieties are exactly alike (except for any deviation due to die wear or de...

Re: 1976 kennedy half dollar possibly DD what do you think?
When it comes to this you came to the correct place to hear exactly what your coin is. No matter what you have been told about your coin it is not a doubled die, this is, as Paul stated, mechanical doubling. Paul and I are CONECA members and he is a Representative, people send coins like this to him...

Re: This stinks
This might make you feel better. happydance: ... Or not? All 1988's have a wide A M. It is the shape and position of the designers initials (G) on the RDV-006 that is the bugger to find. A few reverse dies intended to be used in 1989 were used early, in the production of a small portion of 1988 Linc...

Re: 1988 D Wide AM...I think.
I hate to break it to you but all 1988's are wide AM. Nothing special about a wide AM. It is designer's initials on the 1988 P&D RDV-006 that is valuable, which is most noticeable on the designers initials. (RDV stands fo Reverse Design Varieties.) The sites really confuse everyone by keeping th...

Re: 1972 DDO - (1972P-1DO-004) roll hunting
Congrats on the find. Though I am not convinced that it is an 004. It could be a LDS 007. It is hard to see the markers in the photo's. You can do that at Coppercoins. Unless you take extremely clear, high resolution, high micro photos it is very hard for someone else to check the markers. Go to Cop...

Re: 1980 Shadow S/D
It's not so useful when it causes you to see minute details you have yet to understand about a dies' surface that can transfer to a coin. Use a loupe, that is what the experts use unless you're mapping a new variety then they use a scope but they know what they're looking at.
