Post 2006 nebraska state quarter error struck through
found this quarter i believe it is a genuwine stuck through coin error. it looks unbelievable, but on the side rim of coin there is no protruding metal from if grooves were made w/ filer or grinder it is in perfect condition. which suggests to me that the collar was around quarter when pressed and grooves struck through questionable debris anyone with an ideas what could have created such groves they are on front and reverse of coin. thanks

Welcome to the forum! Never seen one like that but I'd say it was likely done with a file or something post mint. Doesn't seem to be any uniformity to the spacing between notches or angle/tilt of each. Some of the indents like the ones around the I and E in UNITED and Q in QUARTER seem to have been made deeper or on a steeper angle and filed over those adjacent letters but the others seem more shallow and don't affect the nearby letters. This is just my guess I very well could be wrong.

Welcome to the forum. I examined the coin the best I could and it appears someone placed a metal object, at varying angles and spacing and struck with a hammer. IMO it's not a mint error or strike though.

follow up for viewers:

I have taken coin to an error coin dealer in california and he pointed out to me that the grooves of the coin are missing the upper metal of the coin and that it has not been smashed done into the surface of the coin. Rather the grooves are actually missing the metal from the surface of the coin which is how they were created. I don't believe a hammer has done this because there is no rim dings and the grooves are unilateraly the same depth and similar in length. I'll try and get some closer up pics. Could it be struck through tips of feeder fingers?

The metal can't be missing unless it's been filed or ground off, and strike throughs don't display missing metal either. Also, the edges of the indents appear to be raised higher than the surrounding edge, suggesting metal flow from being struck with a hard object.

Imagine what could have accidentally got between the die and the planchet to create these marks, and I can think of only one thing. If it was a gear part, then some of the gear details would be on other areas of the coin, because the marks follow the rim, that would indicate it was laying on top of the coin and the gear teeth lined up with the rim.

Furthermore, most strike throughs are easy to identify, for example, clothe, wood, wire just to name a few.

Have to agree with Daniel that it does not appear to be a strike through error. Each notch seems to have been made individually and if it was somehow struck through a small gear or something they would be more uniform and symmetric. And as mentioned a gear leaving marks in this direction would mean it was basically covering the coin completely and not just overlapping the rim.

There are probably different kinds but I think for the most part feeder fingers are more like notched flat piece of metal that slide the planchets into place as can be seen in the photo below. Doubt this is the size of a quarter but the second image is a part from a patent for a coin counter & sorting device and if the grooves weren't hammered/stamped or filed in they may have been made by something like this since the notches don't go all the way around and are of somewhat different sizes ... but would still then expect the grooves to be more uniform and consistent.

Really can't think of any object that would leave strike through marks like these .... besides it having to actually get into a press. Actually thought about trying to replicate the marks but can't even think of anything I could use to make marks that small, maybe the edge of a dime?

I'd have to say post mint damage as well. I found a wheat penny one time with similar marks. Both a dealer and members on here told me it was post mint damage. The main reason for which is the lack of symmetry.
