Could even be a die clash. If you could get a closer and larger shot it would be great.

I wouldn't have thought of it, but a die clash is actually a really good explanation. I'm pretty sure that's exactly where Washington's ponytail would be on a die clash.

A clearer picture would help. I voting on a die clash also, because I think I see something else in the bend of the island.

I will try and get a clearer pic up the image is raised and not incused I didn't come up with the die clash probablity i don't see any indication of other areas on the coin that indicate that, but I really havn't examined this coin to the fullest.

I thought it may be a possible doubled die instead. but this one is a little tricky, some times they are when determining errors or maybe a variety coin.
Thanks everybody for your opinions and i will get better pics when i have the time.

Here's a close up of what it is, although it's a different coin.

A die clash is always raised and not incused. When the two dies strike each other, the image is incused, so when it is struck the image is raised. Like the others said, a clearer picture would clear things up.

I know, it's a reef! Just kidding. I guess it could be a part of Washington's head, but whatever it is, I would do some research or send it to Ken Potter or CONECA.

Actually some deceitful seller on e-bay had it listed as a doubled die. It has ended.

That's what I think it is a doubled die not a die clash the only possiblity that this is a die clash > I think it could be the bottom of Washington hair Bow from the obverse and it does look like it.

I have to examine this coin a little more to come up with a finale conclusion on this one ,because it could be a lot of different possiibilities even a doubled die.

There's one problem with the DDO theory, it's not even close to the same shape as the edge of the island. I think we find out that this is more than likely a die clash or die break.

Of course, it could be another Wisconsin type mint "carving". A person at the mint could have did this to a working die.

If you look really close (and use some imagination) you can almost see Washington's profile. Of course, it could also be a small die chip.
